Joint TNI Apparatus Successfully Defeats OPM Figure in Puncak Jaya
Puncak Jaya — Joint TNI apparatus has once again demonstrated its success in maintaining security stability in the Central Papua region. Through a military operation carried out in a measured and professional manner in Ilamburawi District, Puncak Jaya Regency, an important figure of the Free Papua Organization (OPM), Nekison Enumbi alias Bumi Walo Enumbi, was successfully paralyzed. The operation was carried out on Saturday (10/5/2025) by the TNI Joint Task Force.
Nekison is known as one of the leaders of the OPM armed group in the Yambi region who has been a fugitive due to his involvement in various acts of violence and armed terror in Central Papua. He is also listed on the Puncak Jaya Police Wanted List (DPO) with the number DPO/S-34/01/IV/2024/RESKRIM dated April 25, 2024. Some of his most prominent actions include the attack on Puncak Jaya Police personnel on January 21, 2025 and the shooting of a retired Polri officer on April 7, 2025. These actions add to the long list of violence carried out by armed separatist groups against security forces and civilians.
“This success is a real form of the TNI’s commitment to maintaining security stability and protecting the Papuan people from the threat of armed terror. This operation was carried out in a measured manner based on accurate information from other Joint Task Forces,” said Dansatgas Media Koops TNI Habema, Lt. Col. Inf. Iwan Dwi Prihartono.
In the armed contact that occurred, Nekison put up fierce resistance but was finally paralyzed on the spot. From the location of the operation, TNI troops secured a number of pieces of evidence that were strongly suspected of being used in various acts of violence. Among them were three 9 mm caliber ammunition, one 5.56 mm caliber cartridge, two axes, six machetes, and two HT-type communication devices. In addition, three pistol holsters, two GSM mobile phones, one Android mobile phone, four bows and arrows, and 90 arrows were confiscated.
This success not only has an impact on the tactical side of security, but also provides a strong moral message that the state will not remain silent in the face of all forms of threats to the sovereignty and peace of society.
The community in the Puncak Jaya area is also urged to remain calm and support law enforcement measures taken by the authorities. Firm action against OPM figures such as Nekison Enumbi is proof that the government is present and does not tolerate violence that disrupts public order.
With this success, the TNI Joint Task Force confirms its commitment to continue securing the Papua region and ensuring that people can live their lives safely, peacefully, and with dignity.
