Joint TNI Task Force Successfully Paralyzes OPM Figure, Central Papua Stability Continues to be Strengthened
Puncak Jaya – A joint TNI task force has successfully paralyzed one of the main actors of armed violence in Central Papua, Nekison Enumbi alias Bumi Walo Enumbi. The action that took place in Ilamburawi District, Puncak Jaya Regency, marked significant progress in law enforcement against armed separatist groups that have been threatening the security of the Papuan people.
The Commander of the Media Task Force of the TNI Habema Operations Command, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Iwan Dwi Prihartono, stated that the success of this operation was inseparable from measured work and solid collaboration.
“Nekison is a central figure in the OPM network in the Yambi region, who has been the mastermind behind various acts of violence against officers and civilians,” he said.
Nekison Enumbi, who is known to have a long history of terror acts, was declared dead in armed contact after putting up resistance. A number of pieces of evidence were obtained from the operation location, including sharp weapons, ammunition, and communication devices that are suspected of being used in coordinating OPM actions.
Nekison’s presence on the Puncak Jaya Police Wanted List (DPO) since April 2024 has become urgent in this operation. He is strongly suspected of being the perpetrator of the shooting of police officers and civilians, including the attack on the Puncak Jaya Police in January 2025 and the shooting of a retired Polri officer last April.
Furthermore, Nekison was also involved in the shooting incident of a motorcycle taxi driver in 2024 and the attack on a logistics truck on a strategic route in Tingginambut District. This series of violence has not only had an impact on security stability, but has also hampered economic activity and public services in the interior of Papua.
“The crimes committed by this group are not limited to officers, but have targeted ordinary citizens, educational facilities, and health workers. They also use social media to provoke and form negative opinions,” explained Iwan.
Therefore, Lieutenant Colonel Iwan firmly appealed to the public not to be influenced by baseless provocative content.
“We urge the public to remain calm. The state is here to ensure security, and every citizen has the right to live without threats from armed groups,” he concluded.
