Jakarta – The first session of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) was officially held in Jakarta on Monday (12/5/2025). As the host, Indonesia welcomed the leaders of Parliaments from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, expressed her pride in the trust given to Indonesia.
“Indonesia is honored to host the 19th PUIC Conference, and we warmly welcome the delegates from friendly countries,” said Puan when opening the forum.
With the theme Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience, the conference emphasized the importance of transparent governance and strong institutions as the foundation of state resilience. The forum also discussed issues of democracy, political stability, and global challenges currently facing the Islamic world.
“Indonesia, through the Indonesian House of Representatives, is ready to be a liaison in encouraging dialogue, cooperation, and change among the parliaments of Islamic countries,” said Puan.
The conference coincided with the 25th anniversary of the founding of PUIC since 1999. The Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, said that preparations had been carried out thoroughly in terms of substance, logistics, and security.
“This is an honor as well as a great responsibility for Indonesia to host the 19th PUIC Conference. We want to ensure that this implementation is successful, substantial, and has a real impact in strengthening the solidarity of the Islamic world,” said Mardani.
The Indonesian House of Representatives also raised the issue of women’s and youth participation in development, as well as cooperation between OIC countries for sustainable development and environmental issues.
“We brought up the issue of women and youth participation, namely how the role and participation of women and the younger generation in Muslim countries can be strengthened,” explained Mardani.
The enthusiasm of the participants was high, with the presence of delegates from Palestine, Kazakhstan, Iran, Turkey, and Mozambique. This conference is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s position in inter-parliamentary diplomacy in the Islamic world.
