PUIC 2025 Session Begins, DPR Emphasizes Concrete Cooperation of Islamic Countries

Jakarta – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) began on Monday (12/5), at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta. The event, which will last until 15 May, also marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of PUIC.

The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that the implementation of PUIC in Indonesia is an important moment to strengthen Indonesia’s role in Islamic world diplomacy.

“This is a great honor for Indonesia. The Indonesian House of Representatives is ready to warmly welcome the delegates, while also emphasizing Indonesia’s commitment to Islamic world diplomacy,” said Puan.

Puan emphasized that hosting PUIC is not just an administrative status, but also a strategic opportunity to demonstrate Indonesia’s leadership in various global issues and build harmony between countries.

“The importance of humanitarian values, solidarity, and mutual understanding in building a more harmonious world order,” said Puan.

With the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”, Puan considered it relevant to the needs of OIC member countries.

“This forum will not be a mere ceremonial event. We want to ensure concrete results from the discussion, with real follow-up through inter-parliamentary cooperation,” said the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

Puan also said that this year’s conference has a special meaning because it is close to the 70th anniversary of the Asia Africa Conference (KAA).

“The Spirit of Bandung 1955 is still relevant today. PUIC is a stage to strengthen global South-South solidarity,” said Puan.

Previously, the Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, said that the DPR would encourage discussion of a number of priority issues such as strengthening the participation of women and youth, sustainable development, and the environment.

“We will voice sustainable development and environment between OIC countries and encourage more real collaboration between parliaments,” he said.

The Indonesian House of Representatives has also prepared the Senayan Declaration which is the main document of the conference results.

The series of PUIC sessions is scheduled to take place intensively over the next four days with the participation of parliamentary leaders from OIC and ASEAN countries.
