PUIC 2025 Session Begins, Indonesian House of Representatives Shows Leadership Among Muslim Countries
Jakarta – The 19th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) is currently underway in Jakarta, marking an important step in strengthening solidarity between Islamic countries. In this prestigious forum, the Indonesian House of Representatives appears as the host and active leader in encouraging synergy between parliaments of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, expressed her gratitude for the presence of delegates from various Islamic countries and emphasized the importance of parliamentary collaboration to respond to global challenges collectively. “This is a great honor for Indonesia. The Indonesian House of Representatives is ready to warmly welcome delegates from friendly countries,” said Puan.
According to her, Indonesia’s position as a country with the largest Muslim population gives it a moral and strategic responsibility to lead the discourse at the Islamic world level. “Being the host of PUIC is not just a status of organizer, but also a real form of Indonesian leadership in strengthening solidarity between parliaments of the Islamic world,” said Puan.
She added that this conference is an important event to show the democratic, inclusive, and solution-oriented face of Islam. “PUIC 2025 is a strategic momentum to emphasize Indonesia’s role as a motor of Islamic diplomacy that is able to unite differences and offer concrete solutions,” she explained.
The presence of parliamentary leaders from all over the Islamic world is also considered a positive signal of international trust in Indonesian diplomacy. “This forum will be a cross-border space based on solution diplomacy, strengthening OIC cooperation in facing global challenges and fighting for humanitarian values,” said Puan.
The Indonesian Parliament not only held this forum with friendliness, but also prioritized substance. The Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, emphasized the importance of this year’s conference theme, namely Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience. “We want to show that we are not only friendly as hosts, but also make real contributions through good governance practices and strong institutions,” said Mardani.
As a forum between OIC legislative institutions established in 1999 and headquartered in Tehran, PUIC aims to strengthen cooperation in various strategic fields, from politics to socio-culture. In this context, the Indonesian House of Representatives fully utilizes this role to encourage dialogue, consensus, and partnerships based on peaceful and progressive universal Islamic values.
The role of the Indonesian House of Representatives in this forum reflects the face of an adaptive and proactive parliament on the global stage. Amidst the dynamics of geopolitics and complex humanitarian issues, Indonesia through the Indonesian House of Representatives has succeeded in positioning itself as a pioneer of relevant and inspiring Islamic parliamentary diplomacy for the Muslim world.
