The 19th PUIC Conference Series Begins, Strengthening Indonesia’s Global Role
Jakarta – Indonesia is hosting the global meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC (PUIC) conference from May 12 to May 15, 2025. This position strengthens Indonesia’s role in the global circle.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that this moment is not just an honor, but a strategic momentum. She warmly welcomed the presence of the delegates participating in the 19th PUIC conference.
“The Indonesian House of Representatives welcomes the delegations and emphasizes Indonesia’s role as the driving force of democratic and inclusive Islamic world diplomacy,” said Puan.
The Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, said that the holding of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation or the Parliamentary Union of the OIC (PUIC) is part of the ongoing efforts of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ BKSAP to strengthen Indonesia’s parliamentary diplomacy in the international arena.
“We believe that solid cooperation among Islamic countries will be a new force to fight for global justice,” he said.
In addition, he also views the importance of building a strong, transparent, and accountable institution amidst current global challenges, ranging from geopolitical tensions, climate change, to economic uncertainty.
Mardani Ali Sera said the conference would also be a forum to discuss important issues such as full support for the Palestinian struggle, protection of the rights of Muslim minorities, and strengthening cooperation between Southern countries (South-South Cooperation/SSC).
“This is not only a moment of reflection, but also an opportunity to renew our commitment to the principles of peace, justice, human rights, and economic development,” Mardani said in a statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Chairman of the BKSAP DPR Mardani stated this when giving a speech at the Embassy Briefing event for the 19th PUIC Conference at the Nusantara Building, parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between PUIC member countries in building a more peaceful and just future for the Islamic world.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to play an active role in supporting the Palestinian people.
Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia’s support for realizing Palestinian independence based on the Two State Solution.
He also said that Indonesia is very ready to provide medical care for Palestinians who are injured and traumatized by the war. He said this would be done if stakeholders agree.
