National TB Alert Movement, Strategic Step Towards a Tuberculosis-Free Indonesia 2030
JAKARTA – The government has shown a high commitment to addressing the problem of Tuberculosis (TB) through the launch of the National TB Alert Movement, which focuses on strengthening the role of villages and sub-districts in preventing and controlling this infectious disease. This step is in line with the Prabowo Subianto administration’s Fastest Best Results (PHTC) Program and is intended as an effort to accelerate the elimination of TB before 2030.
This movement is not only a symbol of the government’s seriousness, but also encourages cross-sector synergy to form an early warning system at the community level. The official launch was carried out by the Ministry of Health on May 9, 2025 in Rambutan Village, East Jakarta, and was broadcast widely on national television and digital channels.
The Main Expert of the Presidential Communications Office, Hariqo Wibawa Satria, stated that this movement is part of the government’s systematic efforts to protect the public from the threat of deadly diseases.
“Through the Joint Movement of Villages and Sub-districts Alert for TB, multi-party collaboration is expected to accelerate early detection, increase access to treatment, and eliminate the stigma against sufferers,” said Hariqo Wibawa Satria.
This effort reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation in facing health challenges that still rank second highest in the world, after India. Every year, more than 125 thousand people in Indonesia lose their lives due to TB. The government is targeting detection of 90 percent of TB cases and a treatment success rate of above 80 percent by 2025.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ribka Haluk, emphasized the importance of local government involvement to support this movement to the maximum.
“Local governments must immediately accommodate this movement, both in planning and budget allocation. TB handling already has a clear legal umbrella through Presidential Regulation Number 67 of 2021,” said Ribka Haluk.
She also gave her appreciation to regions that have been responsive, including Rambutan Sub-district, as a concrete example of good practices in handling TB at the local level.
Through area-based strategies such as contact investigation, stigma elimination, and improving health services and transportation, the National TB Alert Movement is believed to be a bright path towards a TB-free Indonesia. The combination of policy courage and public participation is a strong capital to realize the vision of inclusive and sustainable national health.
