JAKARTA – The 19th Conference of the Union of Parliaments of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) has been taking place since Monday, May 12, 2025, at the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta. This time, Indonesia is the host with the main theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”.

The Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the DPR RI, Mardani Ali Sera, said that members of the OIC Parliament set an agenda with the theme ‘Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience’ through a standing committee meeting.

“This momentum marks Indonesia’s strategic role as the center of parliamentary diplomacy in the Islamic world, and confirms the commitment of the Indonesian House of Representatives to strengthen the values of good governance and strong institutions as the main foundation of global resilience,” said

OIC member countries attended the standing committee meeting, also discussing transparency, parliamentary accountability, and global challenges such as the conflict in Palestine, climate change, and the crisis of public trust in state institutions.

“The PUIC session is an important stage for member countries to unite views and strengthen solidarity,” said Mardani.

One important emphasis came from the attitude of the Indonesian House of Representatives towards the Palestinian conflict.

“Indonesia urges all PUIC members to take real action through parliamentary diplomacy, humanitarian solidarity, and support for the international legal process to demand accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel,” said Mardani.

In addition to the forum agenda, a bilateral meeting between the Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives Indra Iskandar and the Secretary General of the Bahrain Parliament Mohamed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain also stole the attention. In the meeting, Bahrain stated its commitment to establishing concrete cooperation with Indonesia.

“They expressed their desire that the relationship between the Indonesian and Bahraini Parliaments can be further facilitated, both through direct meetings and digital communication. Of course, this is a positive opportunity that we will follow up on,” said Indra.

The issue of exchanging policy studies on mothers and children to increasing institutional capacity is the main focus of this collaboration. Indra said that the Indonesia-Bahrain Bilateral Cooperation Group will be the main liaison in developing this strategic collaboration.
