Security Forces Prioritize Humanist Approach to Maintain Smooth Running of 19th PUIC Session
Jakarta – The implementation of the 19th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) held at the DPR/MPR RI Building, Jakarta, took place in a safe and conducive atmosphere. Security forces demonstrated maximum readiness by implementing persuasive and humanist security strategies, without carrying firearms.
A total of 1,146 joint personnel from related security forces were deployed to secure the conference attended by delegates from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This step is part of Indonesia’s efforts as the host to ensure security without causing anxiety among participants.
The Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Pol. Susatyo Purnomo Condro, explained that all personnel had received strict instructions not to carry firearms while on duty. This was done in order to create a comfortable, friendly, and non-intimidating atmosphere.
“In securing this activity, we prioritize a persuasive and friendly approach. We have directed all personnel not to carry firearms. This is a form of our commitment to maintaining a conducive, safe, and comfortable atmosphere for all guests from friendly countries,” said Susatyo.
Security is carried out comprehensively at various strategic points. The focus of security includes the main location of the trial, the arrival and departure routes for state guests, the delegation’s accommodation area, and a number of vulnerable points in the Senayan area. Potential disturbances, both physical such as traffic jams and demonstrations, and non-physical such as cyber threats, have been mapped and anticipated comprehensively through inter-agency coordination.
“This is not just a security task. This is about showing that Indonesia is a friendly, orderly, and trustworthy country as a host for international events. Therefore, we instruct all ranks to work with heart, maintain ethics, and prioritize a professional attitude,” continued Susatyo.
Polda Metro Jaya also deployed personnel from the Brimob Unit to strengthen the security system. A total of 8 Company-Level Units (SSK) from the Riot Control (PHH) elements were deployed, equipped with two-wheeled vehicles, a Bomb Disposal Team (Jibom), and tactical vehicles such as Barracuda, Armoured Water Cannon (AWC), and security barriers.
Dansatbrimob Polda Metro Jaya, Sr. Comr. Pol. Henik Maryanto, stated that the presence of officers with complete security was not the main choice in this security. What is prioritized is the responsiveness, alertness, and ability of personnel in maintaining a peaceful situation but ready to face all possibilities.
“The Brimob Unit of Polda Metro Jaya is fully committed to maintaining national stability and security, especially in the context of securing international forums such as the 19th PUIC Session. We want to provide a sense of security, not create tension,” said Henik.
Henik also appealed to the public to maintain public order and support the smooth running of this activity. Public participation is considered important as part of Indonesia’s face in the eyes of the international community.
“The public is urged to remain calm, maintain order and support the ongoing security efforts for the smooth running of this international-scale event,” said Henik.
With an approach that prioritizes professionalism, humanism, and cross-sectoral coordination, the security forces have proven their readiness and maturity in handling the security of an international-scale event.
