Opening of the 19th PUIC, Indonesia Voices Humanitarian Corridor to Realize Peace
Jakarta – The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) inaugurated the series of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Thursday (14/5).
Indonesia expressed its deep concern over the impact of the ongoing conflict in a number of OIC member countries and emphasized its active role in encouraging peaceful solutions and protecting the interests and safety of Indonesian citizens in conflict areas.
Previously, Deputy Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the DPR RI, Ravindra Airlangga after a bilateral meeting with the Yemeni Parliament delegation on the sidelines of the 19th PUIC Conference which took place from 12 to 15 May 2025.
“The DPR RI will continue to voice that the humanitarian corridor is wide open and provide full support for peace efforts,” said Ravindra.
Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani said that holding the PUIC Conference in Indonesia is not just an administrative honor, but a strategic momentum for Indonesia to reaffirm its role as a motor of democratic, inclusive, and solution-oriented Islamic world diplomacy.
“This conference is a forum for parliaments of Islamic countries to exchange ideas and build a common understanding in responding to various global issues, ranging from humanitarian conflicts, economic inequality, to environmental crises,” said Puan Maharani.
She emphasized the importance of solidarity between Islamic countries in facing global challenges.
“We hope that this conference can produce concrete resolutions that make a positive contribution to peace and progress in the Islamic world and strengthen cooperation among OIC member countries,” said Puan.
Indonesia’s role as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world that is committed to strengthening multilateral cooperation based on moderate, inclusive, and solution-oriented Islamic values.
Previously, PUIC Secretary General Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome shown by Indonesia as the host. The participants recognized Indonesia’s strategic role in strengthening the position of Islamic countries in the global arena.
The four-day conference is expected to produce a number of important resolutions in the areas of global peace and security, sustainable economic development, youth empowerment, women’s issues and handling humanitarian crises.
