19th PUIC Officially Opened, President Prabowo Promotes Indonesia’s Vision for the Progress of the Islamic World
Jakarta – In an atmosphere full of meaning and hope, Jakarta witnessed the start of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), Wednesday (14/5).
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in his opening speech said that this moment was a great honor for him and invited participants of the 19th PUIC to take real action for the peace and progress of the Islamic world.
“Today I am speaking with representatives from all Muslims in the world. Therefore, this is a great honor for me,” said the President.
The President said that the 1945 Constitution explicitly states that the Indonesian nation participates in maintaining world order.
“This is the main foundation and foreign policy of Indonesia,” said Prabowo
The opening ceremony took place solemnly, presenting legislative representatives from various corners of the Islamic world, who were united in the spirit of dialogue and cooperation that upholds universal humanitarian values.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that this moment is an honor for Indonesia. She raised the spirit of solidarity, peace and cooperation in building a world order and providing goodness for Muslims in particular and all humanity in general.
“Therefore, a stronger commitment and solidarity are needed. There is no development without peace and no peace without development,” said Puan Maharani.
Previously, in the plenary session of the conference, the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ivory Coast, Adama Bictogo, officially handed over the position of President of PUIC to the Speaker of the People’s Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), Puan Maharani.
The 18th PUIC Chairmanship was previously held by the Parliament of the Republic of Ivory Coast.
“I hand over the presidency of our organization to our honorable sister and colleague, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives. I congratulate you on the trust given and also wish you success in carrying out this mandate,” said Bictogo at the Nusantara Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (14/5).
The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Countries (PUIC) held in Jakarta is a historic moment in the dynamics of parliamentary diplomacy in the Islamic world.
Bictogo believes that Indonesia is capable of bringing the transformation of PUIC to a new phase marked by significant changes and positive changes, both in organizational governance and in strengthening the position of parliaments of Islamic countries in the global arena.
“I believe that his leadership will be marked by significant changes,” he said.
