Indonesia Officially Leads PUIC, New Milestone in Islamic World Parliamentary Diplomacy
Jakarta — Indonesia has officially received the baton of leadership of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) from the Speaker of the Ivory Coast Parliament, Adama Bictogo. This handover marks the beginning of Indonesia’s transformative leadership in strengthening Islamic world solidarity through parliamentary channels.
Indonesia’s leadership in PUIC will prioritize universal humanitarian values that are in line with the spirit of the Indonesian constitution. He said that Indonesia will fight for the voices of developing countries in the global arena, especially in promoting world peace and conflict resolution through diplomatic channels.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that Indonesia’s leadership in PUIC will focus on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, empowering women, and global humanitarian issues.
“We are committed to making PUIC a strategic forum to fight for global justice, including support for Palestine and other humanitarian issues,” said Puan.
Meanwhile, in his leadership handover speech, Adama Bictogo expressed his belief that Indonesia would bring a new spirit to PUIC.
“Indonesia has the experience and capacity to lead PUIC towards a more inclusive and responsive direction to the challenges of the times,” he said.
On the other hand, PUIC Executive Committee Member from Indonesia, Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, added that Indonesia’s leadership will encourage concrete cooperation between member countries’ parliaments.
“We will focus on real programs that can improve the welfare of the people, such as education, health, and economic empowerment,” said Irine.
With Indonesia’s leadership, PUIC is expected to become a more effective platform in voicing the aspirations of the Islamic world and strengthening the role of parliament in facing global challenges.
Indonesia’s leadership in PUIC is not only a milestone for parliamentary diplomacy, but also opens a new chapter for more inclusive, responsive, and transformative solidarity in the Islamic world. By focusing on strategic issues such as global justice, women’s empowerment, and concrete cooperation between countries, Indonesia plays an active role in building bridges of dialogue and real action amidst the world’s geopolitical challenges.
