Indonesia’s Success in Organizing the 19th PUIC, Strengthening Strategic Role in Islamic Parliamentary Diplomacy
JAKARTA – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) held in Jakarta is an important momentum in demonstrating Indonesia’s success and leadership in the international arena.
In celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of PUIC, the parliamentary leaders of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries affirmed their solidarity and shared commitment to building a better, fairer, and more humanitarian world order.
This conference raised the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”, which highlights the importance of good governance as a foundation for resilience in facing global challenges.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, in her speech said that the spirit of the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference is still very relevant and an inspiration for PUIC in rallying new strengths of developing countries for the advancement of the Muslim community.
“We cannot let the world order develop naturally. We must take a role, unite in PUIC solidarity to create a humanist and just political, economic, social, and cultural order,” said Puan.
PUIC is recognized as a strategic force that can influence global policies if all its members unite. The PUIC meeting is not only a discussion forum, but a forum to produce a concrete agenda in facing global challenges.
“We are strong because we are solid, and we are solid because we are strong. Therefore, this meeting is not only a discussion forum, but also a forum to discuss geopolitical conflicts, climate change, economic disparities, and the struggle for Palestinian independence,” said Puan.
Meanwhile, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto when officially opening the conference, expressed Indonesia’s pride as the host of the 19th PUIC and its full commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
“Indonesia will never stop supporting Palestine. This struggle requires real support, not just discussion or resolution,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo also invited Islamic countries to emulate the great leadership in Islamic history such as Sholahudin Al-Ayyubi and Muhammad Al-Fatih who built civilization through compassion, knowledge, and exemplary behavior.
“There is no strong poor country. The key to strength lies in a clean government and strong institutions,” he said.
Deputy Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bramantyo Suwondo, also emphasized Indonesia’s role as a country that upholds global peace and stability.
“In an increasingly uncertain global situation, Indonesia is committed to continuing to be an active partner in building fair and equal international cooperation,” he said.
With the success of the 19th PUIC and the spirit of togetherness demonstrated by its members, Indonesia has once again shown itself as a leader capable of bridging the interests of the Islamic world and encouraging the creation of a peaceful, just, and sustainable world civilization.
