President Prabowo Invites OIC Parliament to Strengthen Islamic World Unity at the 19th PUIC
Jakarta – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) held in the Plenary Meeting Room I, DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta is an important moment in strengthening governance and solidarity between member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in line with the 25th anniversary of the founding of PUIC.
With the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”, this forum voiced the importance of good governance and strong institutions as the foundation for the resilience of Muslim countries in facing global challenges.
The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, in his opening speech said that the Islamic world must return to being a moral and civilizational force.
“This gathering of Islamic state parliaments was born from the awareness that we need a forum for togetherness in facing global challenges and defending the interests of Muslims wherever they are,” said President Prabowo.
He emphasized that Islamic history is filled with exemplary leaders such as Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi, Khalid bin Walid, and Muhammad Al-Fatih, who were not only strong militarily but also magnanimous, compassionate, and upheld justice.
“The true strength of a leader is compassion and determination to always protect the weak,” said President Prabowo.
The President also emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to the struggle of Muslims and the importance of the unity of the Islamic world. “Let’s not just discuss and draft resolutions. They need real support and action,” he said.
He said that without a clean government and strong institutions, Muslims would not be able to rise from poverty, inequality, and injustice.
His speech received praise from the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, who called it a form of visionary parliamentary leadership.
He also called President Prabowo’s speech a moment of reflection that was inspiring and inspiring for the delegates.
“The parliamentary representatives not only applauded, but were amazed. The speech raised awareness that a true leader must love and protect his people,” he added.
The 19th PUIC Conference included six standing committee meetings discussing strategic issues such as youth and women, Palestine, Muslims, sustainable development, culture, and political affairs. Each committee produced recommendations that will become the direction of PUIC’s future work, including the main call to strengthen clean governance and institutions. The 19th PUIC Conference began on 12-15 May 2025 at the DPR Parliament complex, in Senayan, Jakarta.
