Government Successfully Suppresses OPM Separatist Action, Community Safe
Papua – The government has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining security and stability in the Papua region. In an integrated operation that was held, security forces succeeded in crushing the armed separatist group of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) in Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency.
The law enforcement operation that lasted only one hour, from 04.00 to 05.00 WIT, killed 18 OPM members. The operation targeted a number of vulnerable points, namely Titigi Village, Ndugusiga, Jaindapa, Sugapa Lama, and Zanamba. This success shows the state’s readiness and assertiveness in responding to threats to the sovereignty and safety of the Papuan people.
“This operation was carried out in a measured, professional manner, and still prioritized the safety of civilians,” said the Head of the Information Center, Major General Kristomei Sianturi.
In addition to prosecuting the perpetrators of violence, the authorities also secured various pieces of evidence in the form of firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows, Morning Star flags, and communication equipment that is often used to spread separatist propaganda.
This action is part of a series of law enforcement against groups that have disturbed public order and hampered the development process in Papua. The government emphasized that the operation was carried out with a professional approach and still respects the civil rights of residents.
In recent times, security forces have also succeeded in eliminating one of the key OPM figures, Nekison Enumbi alias Bumi Walo Enumbi, in an operation in Ilamburawi District, Puncak Jaya Regency. Nekison is the leader of the OPM in the Yambi region who is suspected of being involved in a series of deadly terror acts.
“This success is real evidence of the government’s efforts to protect the Papuan people from the threat of violence and separatist actions,” said Lieutenant Colonel Inf Iwan Dwi Prihartono, the spokesperson for the operation.
The Chief of the Sugapa Village Tribe, Melianus Wandegau, also expressed his appreciation for the presence of the state in protecting the community. “We were promised prosperity by the OPM, but in reality we were only used as a shield to fight the authorities. The presence of the state gave us hope and protection,” he said.
Meanwhile, it is certain that the Joint TNI Apparatus has succeeded in killing 18 OPM members, NOT civilians or non-combatants as claimed by the OPM.
The government, through an integrated approach of security, development, and dialogue, continues to strive to create a peaceful and prosperous Papua. The apparatus will remain on standby at strategic points to anticipate potential further threats, while also guaranteeing the rights of the community to live in safety and peace.
The state also opens the door for members of armed groups who want to return to the bosom of Mother Earth. The humanist approach remains the mainstay in embracing all the children of the nation in Papua.
