Let’s Accept the Results of the Re-vote Openly, the KPU Continues to Maintain Integrity and Neutrality

JAKARTA — The General Elections Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI) has called on all parties involved in the Re-vote (PSU), including candidate pairs (paslon) and their supporters, to accept whatever the results of the Re-vote are with an open heart.

Being open-minded in accepting whatever and however the results of the Re-vote are is one example of a mature attitude in democracy.

This attitude is considered very important to be able to maintain regional political stability, which also affects national stability and maintains public trust in the entire process and series of the General Election (Pemilu).

KPU RI member, Iffa Rosita, emphasized that all candidate pairs are required to continue to uphold the spirit of healthy democracy and are ready to accept whatever and however the results of the PSU are without any chaos.

“I hope all candidate pairs can be open-minded, and have an open-hearted attitude in accepting the results of the vote determination,” said Iffa after monitoring the ongoing plenary recapitulation of the PSU votes at the Serang Regency level, Thursday.

Iffa also reminded the ad hoc organizers in the regions, especially in Serang, to always be careful in carrying out the recapitulation.

He highlighted the increasing trend of post-PSU disputes in several regions.

“We must be careful because of the 11 regions that have implemented the Constitutional Court’s decision and held a PSU, seven have filed lawsuits again with the Constitutional Court. Serang must not follow suit,” he said.

The KPU RI, he continued, has continuously emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and neutrality during the implementation of the PSU so as not to cause dissatisfaction that leads to further lawsuits.
“There must be preventive measures so that similar situations do not recur in the future…” he added.

Meanwhile, Riau KPU Commissioner, Nahrawi, asked all ranks of PSU organizers in Siak to work professionally and obey regulations.

“Confirming to fellow organizers in Siak to maintain integrity, neutrality, and professionalism in the implementation of the PSU,” he said.

He also requested that the issue of money politics be socialized massively as part of preventing election violations.

“However, in terms of duties and functions, there are parties who have more authority to handle this, namely Bawaslu and Gakkumdu,” he continued.

On the other hand, the Coordinator of the South Sumatra Bawaslu Division, Massuryati, also reminded the importance of improving competence and ethics for all Panwascam.

“If we have been reminded, but ignored, we can include it in our monitoring report,” he said. (*)
