Government Records 37% Exploration Growth for Energy Self-Sufficiency
Jakarta – Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Exploration Director, Muharram Jaya Panguriseng emphasized that the company continues to be committed to encouraging national energy independence through increasing oil and gas exploration. As Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, PHE recorded exploration growth of 37% per year as part of a grand strategy towards energy self-sufficiency.
“We continue to operate in the existing area because there are still opportunities there. This opportunity makes us optimistic that we can get big discoveries like in 2024, which became Pertamina’s largest discovery in the last fifteen years,” said Muharram in Jakarta.
Muharram explained that PHE carries three main strategies in supporting the acceleration of oil and gas exploration. First, for the short-term target of the next five years, the company focuses on optimizing existing exploration areas.
Second, for the long term, PHE is aggressively entering new areas (open areas) to pursue the discovery of oil and gas blocks with significant production potential.
Third, PHE is building strategic cooperation with domestic and foreign partners, as a risk mitigation measure and opening up opportunities for technology transfer.
“In the last three years, we have acquired eight new exploration work areas. This shows that our efforts are not only planned, but also produce concrete results,” added Muharram.
Muharram revealed that two major discoveries were achieved, namely the Tedong (TDG)-001 structure with 2C Recoverable resources of 548 billion cubic feet of gas (bcfg), and the Padang Pancuran (PPC)-1 structure with 2C Recoverable resources of 140.6 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe).
“This success is real evidence of the dedication and hard work of our exploration team and close collaboration with SKK Migas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, so that it is expected to contribute to national oil and gas lifting in order to realize the vision of energy self-sufficiency and national energy security,” he said.
In addition to focusing on increasing production, PHE is also committed to running the upstream oil and gas business sustainably and ethically. The company implements the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and implements the Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) which has been certified ISO 37001:2016, as a real form of commitment to clean and transparent governance.
Meanwhile, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, said that the exploration carried out by PHE is part of Pertamina’s strategy in navigating the global challenges of the energy sector and realizing national energy self-sufficiency.
“The development of the upstream sector is the key for Pertamina to increase upstream oil and gas production in supporting the national production target and energy self-sufficiency as planned by the Government,” said Fadjar.
With these strategic steps, PHE continues to demonstrate its central position as the main driver of sustainable national oil and gas exploration and production, towards the nation’s energy independence.
