Protect Cyberspace Security, Government Blocks Sites Promoting Online Gambling
Jakarta – The government continues to show a firm commitment to eradicating online gambling, also known as online gambling, because it is considered to damage the morals, economy, and future of the younger generation.
One of the real steps taken by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is by temporarily blocking the Internet Archive platform (archive.org) which is suspected of containing dangerous content.
The Director General of Digital Space Supervision at Kemkomdigi, Alexander Sabar, said that the blocking was carried out because a number of contents were found to violate the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE), including those containing online gambling and pornography.
“A number of contents violate the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE), especially content containing online gambling and pornography,” said Alexander.
He emphasized that this action was not a unilateral or sudden decision, but through a long process such as periodic notification, official communication, and content analysis.
When there is no response from the platform, and serious violations are found, then firm steps are taken in the public interest.
“We recognize the value of the Internet Archive as a world digital archive. But that value cannot be used as a shield to allow dangerous and illegal content to remain available in Indonesia,” he said.
In addition to online gambling content, Kemkomdigi also found copyright violations that harm the national creative industry. The state, said Alexander, is obliged to protect industry players from digital piracy practices.
On the other hand, the North Sumatra Financial Services Authority (OJK) is also intensifying education to stem online gambling in educational environments. The Head of the North Sumatra OJK, Khoirul Muttaqien, stated that his party is collaborating with 2,000 teachers and ASN to be more vigilant against hidden judol practices in online games.
“I hope that teachers can pay more attention to all students to stay away from gambling activities, especially online gambling,” said Khoirul.
This collaborative step shows that the government is not sitting idly by and continues to prioritize community protection through a regulatory and educational approach.**
