OPM Again Commits Brutal Terror in Jayawijaya, Papuans Unite to Reject Violence
JAYAWIJAYA – Jayawijaya has again witnessed the cruelty of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) after the brutal shooting of two workers building a house of worship, Rahmat Hidayat and Saepudin in Kwantapo Village, Asotipo District. This action not only claimed lives, but also tarnished the sanctity of the place of worship and shook the conscience of humanity.
The attack on civilians further emphasizes that the OPM is increasingly losing its direction in the struggle. Instead of defending the Papuan people, the OPM is spreading terror and deep wounds to the indigenous people. Ironically, the propaganda that is spread is often wrapped in false narratives and hoaxes to obscure the cruel facts on the ground.
The Deputy Regent of Jayawijaya, Ronny Elopere, strongly condemned the action and emphasized that the violence carried out by the OPM does not represent the aspirations of the Papuan people.
“What they are doing is not a struggle, but a murder that hurts us all,” said Ronny.
He invited all elements of society and the authorities to work together to maintain security.
“The people should not be afraid. We must fight this terror with unity and moral strength,” he added.
The same thing was also conveyed by the Head of Baliem Yalimo Classis, Reverend Eduard Su, who called the OPM’s actions an insult to religious values.
“The church should be a place of peace, not a field of violence. This cannot be tolerated,” said Reverend Eduard.
He invited all people to unite to reject terror and not be influenced by separatist propaganda. According to him, the cruelty of the OPM actually betrays the spirit of humanity and the spiritual values of the Papuan people.
Meanwhile, a resident who survived the attack, Markus Murib, expressed his concern over the tense situation.
“We just want to live in peace, work and worship without fear,” said Markus Murib.
This tragedy is a sign that the OPM’s narrative of hatred no longer has a place in the hearts of the Papuan people. The strength of the people now lies in the voice of peace and rejection of violence. A strong signal that Papua refuses to submit to terror, and chooses a peaceful path for a dignified future.
