Prabowo–Putin Sign Four Strategic Agreements, RI Strengthens Global Role
St. Petersburg — Indonesia and Russia have confirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations by signing four strategic cross-sector cooperation agreements. The agreements were witnessed directly by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace, St. Petersburg, Thursday (19/6), coinciding with the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The four areas of cooperation include higher education, cross-border transportation, digital communications, and strategic investment. In the field of education, collaboration between universities will encourage student exchanges and academic development. In the transportation sector, Indonesia and Russia have agreed to open the Moscow–Bali flight route 3–4 times per week to support connectivity and tourism.
Another memorandum of understanding was signed between the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital and the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, covering the development of 5G technology, IoT, smart cities, cybersecurity, and media content. Meanwhile, the 2 billion euro investment cooperation between Danantara and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) will focus on the energy, technology, and nuclear sectors for peaceful purposes.
President Prabowo said that his bilateral meeting with President Putin was productive and strategic.
“My meeting with President Putin was very warm and productive. This agreement is a new milestone in the mutually beneficial relations between Indonesia and Russia,” said Prabowo.
President Putin called Indonesia an important partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region and highlighted the increase in bilateral trade.
“Indonesia is a key partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific. In the first four months of this year alone, our trade increased by 40 percent compared to last year,” Putin emphasized.
The two also signed the Indonesia-Russia Strategic Partnership Declaration as a long-term foundation for relations between the two countries.
Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the NasDem Faction, Amelia Anggraini, called President Prabowo’s presence at the international forum a strategic moment that showed Indonesia’s increasingly strong position in the global arena.
“President Prabowo’s presence as the main guest at SPIEF 2025 reflects Indonesia’s increasing bargaining position in the global arena, especially after Indonesia’s full membership in BRICS. Deep appreciation for the active diplomatic steps taken by President Prabowo,” he said.
Amelia also emphasized that this cooperation opens up wider collaboration space in the fields of defense, energy, and food security within an inclusive multipolar framework.
Through this concrete step, Indonesia and Russia affirm their seriousness in building a strong, sustainable, and mutually beneficial partnership for a more stable and prosperous future for the region and world. [-red]
