Respect the Constitution, Reject Provocations to Impeach Vice President Gibran

Jakarta – Calls for the impeachment of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have resurfaced after the Indonesian National Armed Forces Retired Forum (Forum Retired TNI) sent an official letter to the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). However, the calm and firm response from the legislature indicates that this move is baseless and has the potential to undermine national political stability.

Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, urged all parties not to be swept away by provocations that could potentially cause political unrest. He emphasized that the election results represent the people’s sovereignty, which must be safeguarded together.
“Okay, let’s respect the election results,” said Habiburokhman at the Parliament Complex.

He emphasized that in a democratic system, leadership changes can only be carried out through legitimate mechanisms and in accordance with the constitution.

“Don’t disrupt the government with baseless issues. If there is dissatisfaction, channel it through legal channels, not through impeachment narratives,” Habiburokhman asserted.

Furthermore, he assessed that issues raised to the public without a strong legal basis would only cloud the democratic space and undermine public trust in state institutions.

“This is the time for all components of the nation to focus on real work, not be busy building divisive discourse,” added Habiburokhman.

Previously, the Indonesian National Armed Forces Retired Forum sent a letter numbered 003/FPPTNI/V/2025, containing a proposal for Gibran’s impeachment, to the leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). The letter was claimed to have been received by the Parliamentary Secretariat General in early June. However, to date, there has been no official statement regarding further proceedings regarding the letter.

Amidst the transition period of government, political stability is a crucial factor for the continuation of national development. Voices encouraging political provocation must be confronted with firmness and maturity to maintain a healthy, legally based democracy.
