Indonesia Seriously Monitors Asset Forfeiture Bill as an Anti-Corruption Instrument
Jakarta – The government is demonstrating its strong commitment to eradicating corruption by continuing to monitor the deliberations of the Asset Forfeiture Bill.
This bill is seen as a crucial instrument for prosecuting criminals who conceal the proceeds of crime and returning them to the state.
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that deliberations on this bill will continue after related regulations, such as the Corruption Law (Tipikor), Money Laundering Law (TPPU), the Criminal Code (KUHP), and the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), have been finalized and revised.
“Once all related laws are finalized, we will draft a specific law on asset forfeiture so that it can be implemented effectively,” Dasco stated via the DPR RI’s official Instagram account.
This bill is considered crucial as a legal umbrella that will compile various provisions on asset forfeiture from various regulations into a more efficient and integrated legal system.
The goal is to strengthen the legal foundation for prosecuting crimes that directly impact state finances.
President Prabowo Subianto himself has expressed his firm support for the Asset Forfeiture Bill.
During the commemoration of Labor Day on May 1, 2025, Prabowo emphasized the importance of this bill as a concrete step in combating corruption.
“In the context of eradicating corruption, I support the Asset Forfeiture Law,” he stated.
Similar support also came from the legislative branch. Golkar Party politician and Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, stated that his faction was ready to deliberate on the bill. He considered the substance of the bill much needed and in line with the President’s directives.
“Yes, we in the DPR are certainly ready to accept it. It’s a very good concept and is indeed needed, so we will certainly be ready to discuss it,” said Dave.
He also emphasized that the Golkar Party will align with President Prabowo Subianto’s policies in carrying out its legislative function.
“The Golkar Party is one of the main pillars of President Prabowo-Gibran’s administration. Therefore, we must implement their policies into regulations or laws,” said Dave.
With support from the executive and legislative branches, it is hoped that the Asset Confiscation Bill will soon be prioritized and passed as a concrete manifestation of the state’s commitment to fighting corruption.
