Indonesia: 2026 State Budget Focuses on Implementing Free Nutritious Food Programs and Health Issues
Jakarta — The government has set social programs as a top priority in the 2026 Draft State Budget (RAPBN). Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati revealed that next year’s budget policy will be directed at directly addressing the needs of the community, particularly through President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programs, which target strengthening human resources and the health sector.
“What we reported earlier was a discussion starting from macroeconomic assumptions, then the President’s priority programs, ranging from free nutritious food, People’s Schools, the Red and White cooperative, free health check-ups, school repairs, to various presidential instructions on roads and food security infrastructure,” Sri Mulyani said at the State Palace in Jakarta.
According to Sri Mulyani, social programs such as free nutritious food and free health check-ups are two of several strategic programs that are considered to have a direct impact on public welfare.
“This effort is part of the government’s grand vision of building a foundation for resilient, healthy, and productive Indonesian human resources,” she explained.
The government also ensures that the program’s implementation will be supported by proportional and sustainable budget allocations.
“We have reported all of this to obtain direction from the President on whether the priorities are appropriate for finalization,” she added.
Furthermore, Sri Mulyani stated that her office is currently preparing the Financial Note and the 2026 State Budget Bill. These important documents will be submitted directly by President Prabowo Subianto to the House of Representatives (DPR) on August 15, 2025.
“We are reporting to the President regarding the preparation and completion of the Financial Note and the 2026 Draft State Budget. The President plans to submit them to the DPR on August 15,” she said.
She added that various key points and macroeconomic assumptions of the 2026 Draft State Budget have been submitted to the President to obtain final direction on sharpening budget priorities.
“The government’s focus is not only on the effectiveness of state spending, but also on long-term fiscal sustainability,” she concluded.
With an approach that prioritizes community involvement through concrete programs, the 2026 State Budget is expected to be a key instrument in strengthening the quality of life for the people and accelerating equitable national development. ()
