Cartenz Peace Task Force Arrests OPM Member Involved in Shooting of Two Brimob Officers

Nabire – The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force has successfully arrested Siprianus Weya, a member of the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) led by Aibon Kogoya, also known as Daniel Kogoya. The arrest took place at the Topo Police Sector (Polsek) in Nabire Regency on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) at approximately 5:55 PM WIT.

The Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, stated that the arrest was related to the shooting that killed two Brimob personnel, Brigadier Arif Maulana and Brigadier Nelson Runaki, at KM 128 in Siriwo District on August 13.

“The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force has successfully apprehended Siprianus Weya, a member of the armed criminal group led by Aibon Kogoya, also known as Daniel Kogoya. This arrest is related to the murders of Brigadier Arif Maulana and Brigadier Nelson Runaki,” said Faizal in a written statement.

Investigation results indicate that Siprianus was a member of the media division of Kodap III D Dulla, an OPM group operating in the Intan Jaya to Paniai region. Siprianus acted as a documentarian of the OPM group’s actions during the shooting incident. The video recording was then sent to Yosua Waker via WhatsApp.

“Siprianus Weya acted as a documentarian of the Aibon Kogoya group’s actions during the shooting incident,” explained Faizal.

The video and the cellphone used have now been secured as evidence. He is also suspected of involvement in the seizure of two firearms belonging to the victim, Brimob officers.

In addition to Siprianus, the Cartenz Peace Task Force also arrested five other individuals: Jemi Mirip, Botanus Agimbau, Meinus Mirip, Yupinus Weya, and Melianus Mirip. Officers also confiscated several items of evidence from the perpetrators, including jackets, noken (traditional street clothes), cell phones, and other personal items.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation Public Relations Task Force, Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, appealed to the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by misleading rumors.

“We urge all residents of Nabire Regency not to be easily influenced by misleading rumors and to always maintain a conducive public order and security situation. Please fully entrust the law enforcement process to the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force and the police,” said Yusuf.
