Demonstrations Don’t Need to Be Anarchic, Express Your Aspirations Responsibly
Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Aria Bima, appealed to the crowd to hold demonstrations in a peaceful manner. Aria Bima expressed concern about the potential for anarchic actions during the demonstrations. He urged the public to express their aspirations responsibly, avoiding disrupting public order, let alone engaging in anarchic acts.
Aria Bima urged the demonstrators to conduct their actions in accordance with existing regulations. “Conduct demonstrations according to the regulations. We hope that the atmosphere in this room is inseparable from our fellow students who are demonstrating outside,” Aria Bima said.
At the DPR Building, Aria Bima further stated, “Through this honorable forum, we hope that those who are demonstrating will express their aspirations in accordance with the regulations and the wishes of the demonstrators. Please refrain from anarchy, my fellow protesters demonstrating in front of the DPR building,” he said.
House Speaker Puan Maharani stated that her office would openly accept input from the public. She also stated that the DPR also needs public input to help improve its performance. As a representative body of the people, the House of Representatives (DPR) is not closed off and is very open. Instead, it conveys its demands and aspirations in an orderly manner for the betterment of the nation going forward.
“Yes, we will continue to accommodate all aspirations and input from the public, and we ask for input from everyone to help improve the DPR’s performance so that we can work together to build the nation and state,” said Puan.
Responding to the planned demonstration on August 28, 2025, initiated by several labor unions, the government emphasized that such action is unnecessary. The government is currently implementing various programs and policies that favor workers’ interests, including labor protection, welfare improvements, and social security.
Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that his party understands those who will convey their aspirations on August 28. “As far as I know, on the 28th, there are aspirations from fellow workers, in response to the Constitutional Court’s decision to remove the labor law from the Omnibus Law,” Dasco said. Essentially, the DPR will comply with the Constitutional Court’s decision. However, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) needs time to prepare revisions to the law. Dasco emphasized that the right to express aspirations is guaranteed by law. Furthermore, the methods for expressing aspirations are also regulated by law.
