Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Chairman Yahya Staquf: We Agree to Maintain Peace for the Indonesian People

President Prabowo Subianto invited 16 Islamic community organizations (ormas) to his residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, on Saturday (August 30, 2025). The meeting lasted three hours, discussing national challenges while also maintaining a peaceful and conducive situation amidst the escalating situation.

Numerous figures were present, including PBNU Chairman KH Yahya Staquf, Muhammadiyah Chairman KH Haedar Nashir, as well as representatives from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Indonesian Islamic Da’wah Council (DKI), al-Irsyad, Persis, and the Indonesian Islamic Scholar Association (PBII). Prabowo was accompanied by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Head M. Herindra, People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Chairman KH Yahya Staquf stated that the dialogue with the President was warm and open, with discussions aimed at encouraging public calm.

“We had a heart-to-heart dialogue. We agreed to work together to encourage the public to be calmer,” said Gus Yahya, as he is known, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.

Gus Yahya emphasized that all mass organizations present were committed to continuing to support the government in maintaining national unity. He believed that collaboration between the government, religious leaders, and the community was key to facing future challenges.

“God willing, together with President Prabowo Subianto, under his administration, with the support of religious leaders, we can overcome any challenges we face,” he said.

Gus Yahya also stated that a follow-up meeting would be held at the State Palace to strengthen the mutual agreement between the government and Islamic mass organizations.
