Solidarity of the Indonesian Military and Police Receives Praise, Situation Restores to Peace

Jakarta – Appreciation is pouring in for the firm steps taken by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in maintaining security following a number of violent incidents in recent days. The Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Sugeng Teguh Santoso, believes the synergy between the two institutions has succeeded in de-escalating the unrest.

“After the statement by the Chief of Police, accompanied by the TNI Commander, I see a decrease in the tension and violence,” said Sugeng.

Sugeng cited the statement by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who emphasized firm action against the violent actions, as a turning point in calming the situation. He believes the authorities’ actions are in accordance with National Police Chief Regulation (Perkap) Number 1 of 2009 concerning the Use of Force in Police Duties.

“When it reaches that point, firm, measured action is necessary,” he said.

He called on community, religious, and community leaders to help calm the public and instill the importance of maintaining order.

“Please express your aspirations as loudly as you like, criticize as harshly as you like, but don’t go too far. Because what we’re attacking belongs to the state, funded by our own taxes,” Sugeng emphasized.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, emphasized that the police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) have conducted large-scale joint patrols down to the neighborhood (RT/RW) level.

“On the orders of the Chief of Police, I have instructed all Regional Police (Polda) and Resort Police (Polres) to immediately carry out joint patrols with the TNI. There is no room for anarchy and vandalism,” Dedi said.

Dedi also emphasized the importance of the public’s role.

“We cannot work alone. Collaboration between the TNI, Polri, local governments, community leaders, religious leaders, and youth is key. The public is our eyes and ears,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have named 43 suspects in connection with the anarchic actions of August 25–31, 2025, in Jakarta.

“In the four crime scenes mentioned above, we have named at least 43 suspects for the anarchic incidents. 42 of them are adults and one is a child,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi.

Of that number, 38 people have been detained under multiple charges, including incitement via social media and calling on students to participate in the riots.

With the solidarity of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the government is optimistic that the situation will remain conducive, allowing the public to feel safe in carrying out their daily activities.
