Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Police (Polri) Unite, Sweep Away Rioters and Mass Disturbances

JAKARTA – The Indonesian government, through an instruction from President Prabowo Subianto, reaffirmed its commitment to take firm action against perpetrators of riots and criminal acts that disrupt public order.

Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsuddin, stated that the President has ordered the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) not to hesitate in taking firm action against anyone who commits vandalism, looting, or other acts of violence that endanger national security.

“President Prabowo emphasized the importance of maintaining security for individuals, officials, and state institutions from all forms of threats. He has assigned the National Police Chief and the TNI Commander to act swiftly, appropriately, and measuredly in response to any violations of the law,” said Sjafrie.

Firm action against perpetrators of these riots includes not only the destruction of public facilities and looting of private property, but also actions that threaten the safety of officials and their residences.

“If there are actions that threaten the personal safety or residence of officials, the authorities are asked to take immediate and decisive action,” added Sjafrie.

This affirmation received full support from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), demonstrating their solidarity in maintaining national stability. The Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Information Center, Brigadier General Freddy Ardianzah, stated that the TNI and Polri continue to work together to create a sense of security, order, and conduciveness.

“This is important because, as I said earlier, the potential for clashes between the TNI, Polri, and other security forces and the public is enormous, and this will automatically divide the nation’s unity,” said Freddy.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police’s Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, also emphasized that this solidarity demonstrates the TNI and Polri’s cooperation in maintaining the security and sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

“We will continue to work together to take firm action against any potential threat to national order and unity,” Trunoyudo said.

As a concrete step to address acts of violence and unrest, the National Police are conducting large-scale operations in various regions. A total of 3,195 rioters have been arrested, with 55 of them named as suspects.

“We will not give room to anyone who tries to exploit the situation to undermine national stability,” he concluded.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) recorded the highest number of arrests, successfully apprehending 1,240 people involved in the riots in the Jakarta area. This swift and firm law enforcement is strong evidence that the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) remain united in maintaining the integrity of the nation and protecting the public from dangerous threats.
