President Prabowo’s Speech at the UN Becomes Indonesia’s Voice for Economic Justice and World Peace
NEW YORK – President Prabowo Subianto delivered a keynote speech at the 80th United Nations (UN) General Assembly, held in New York, United States, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The speech emphasized Indonesia’s strong commitment to continue fighting for economic justice and world peace amidst today’s increasingly complex global challenges.
President Prabowo Subianto’s strategic position as the third speaker after the Presidents of Brazil and the Presidents of the United States provided ample space for Indonesia’s voice to be heard by the entire international community.
The Head of State’s direct presence also marked the return of Indonesia’s highest-ranking leader to a global forum, including the UN General Assembly, after more than a decade.
Praise continues to pour in for President Prabowo’s presence and speech at this international forum.
One such appreciation came from Anton Sukartono Suratto, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, who assessed that the speech affirmed Indonesia’s leadership at the global level.
“First, it affirms Indonesia’s commitment to world peace. The Palestinian issue is emphasized as part of Indonesia’s commitment to fighting for world peace. Indonesia can act as a bridge for peace,” he said.
He added the importance of highlighting global economic challenges.
“Indonesia must emerge as a new force leading the solidarity of Southern countries,” Anton said.
Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that the 80th General Assembly’s theme, “Better Together, Eight Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights,” is relevant to the spirit of multilateralism.
“This theme renews the spirit of multilateralism amidst today’s global conditions,” Sugiono explained.
He called President Prabowo’s speech an important step in affirming Indonesia’s position as a bridge between developed and developing countries.
The founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), Dino Patti Djalal, assessed that Prabowo’s presence also echoed the diplomatic footsteps of Professor Sumitro Djojohadikusumo.
“We, the Indonesian people, hope that, like the late Professor Sumitro, President Prabowo can continue to champion global efforts to strengthen multilateralism,” said Dino.
He believes the speech brought a breath of fresh air amidst the declining spirit of global cooperation.
President Prabowo’s speech at the UN forum emphasized Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy and solidified the nation’s position as a leader in the Global South, consistently advocating for justice, balance, and world peace. (*)
