Approaching the First Year of the Prabowo-Gibran Administration, Komdigi Blocks 2.2 Million Pieces of Online Gambling Content
Jakarta – Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and the sovereignty of Indonesia’s digital space. Within 11 months of her inauguration on October 21, 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) successfully blocked 2,259,905 pieces of online gambling content across various platforms.
This achievement marks a significant milestone in the first year of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who have made eradicating online gambling a national priority.
According to data from Komdigi’s Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision, the period from October 20, 2024, to September 29, 2025, showed a significant increase compared to the previous year.
In less than a year, the decisive actions under Meutya Hafid’s leadership have more than doubled the effectiveness of enforcement efforts and are predicted to continue to increase.
“Our main goal is to create a healthy, safe, and productive digital space for the Indonesian people,” said Meutya Hafid in her statement.
She emphasized that Komdigi’s policy aligns with President Prabowo’s directive to strengthen digital governance that is equitable and supports the public interest.
Of the more than two million pieces of content blocked, the largest category came from websites and IP addresses, with 2,001,163 blocks. Furthermore, social media platforms and file-sharing services were also primary targets.
Data shows that 104,492 pieces of content were blocked on file-sharing platforms, 97,123 pieces of content in the Meta ecosystem (Facebook and Instagram), 36,517 pieces on Google and YouTube services, and 17,767 pieces on the X platform (Twitter). Meanwhile, Telegram and TikTok recorded 1,778 and 1,048 actions, respectively.
This achievement demonstrates not only the consistency but also the effectiveness of Komdigi’s collaborative approach with law enforcement officials and global digital platform providers.
Meutya Hafid believes that eradicating online gambling is not merely a technical matter, but rather part of efforts to maintain social order and the nation’s morals in the digital era. She emphasized that every policy in the digital space must reflect a commitment to the people and legal values.
“Indonesia’s digital sovereignty must not be compromised by illegal practices that damage the future of society,” she stressed.
Komdigi’s strategic steps also include improving cyber patrol capabilities, integrating data between agencies, and collaborating with international institutions to narrow the distribution channels of illegal websites across borders.
This approach strengthens Indonesia’s position as a nation with an increasingly adaptive and assertive digital surveillance system against cybercrime.
