Government Firmly Combats Online Gambling, Thousands of Accounts and Content Blocked Throughout One Year of Administration
Jakarta — The government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating online gambling practices that disturb the public and harm the national economy. During the one-year administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has successfully blocked 23,929 accounts and 2.1 million pieces of content suspected of being linked to online gambling activities.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), along with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has blocked 23,929 accounts used for online gambling transactions. Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized that this step is part of the government’s commitment to maintaining national social and economic stability.
“We want to ensure that the flow of funds from illegal activities like online gambling is completely cut off,” said Hafid.
She explained that the blocking of thousands of accounts was the result of cyber patrols, inter-agency collaboration, and public reports through official government complaint channels. According to Meutya, the collaboration between Komdigi and the OJK is a concrete example of breaking the chain of transactions between the public and online gambling site operators.
Meutya also encouraged the public to play an active role in eradicating online gambling by reporting suspicious sites, accounts, and accounts.
“We encourage the public to continue participating in reporting suspicious sites, accounts, or activities,” she said.
Komdigi provides digital channels such as aduankonten.id for reporting content and cekrekening.id for reporting accounts used in online gambling transactions.
Over the past year, Komdigi has also successfully removed 2.8 million pieces of negative content, of which 2.1 million were gambling content.
“From October 20th of last year to September 16th, we have removed more than 2.8 million pieces of negative content from Indonesia’s digital space, of which 2.1 million were gambling content,” explained Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Supervision at Komdigi.
Alexander emphasized that online gambling remains a serious threat to the social and economic resilience of society. Therefore, Komdigi will continue to strengthen its oversight and take firm action against perpetrators and providers of illegal services.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs is taking similar steps. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) revealed that collaboration with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) revealed that more than 600,000 social assistance recipients were suspected of online gambling.
“Those proven to be involved in online gambling cannot receive social assistance. Social assistance is only for those who truly need it,” he emphasized.
This cross-ministerial action underscores the government’s commitment to protecting the public and safeguarding the digital space from the threat of online gambling practices. ***
