One Year into the Prabowo-Gibran Administration, Papua Becomes a Pillar of National Food Sovereignty

Jakarta – Papua is now entering a new phase in economic development and national food security. Under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Indonesia’s easternmost region has shown significant progress.

Various strategic programs implemented by the government have strengthened the foundation of food sovereignty in Papua, making it a crucial pillar in realizing an independent and economically sovereign Indonesia.

Papuan community leader, Martinus Demetouw, expressed his pride in the achievements of the Prabowo-Gibran administration over the past year. “In Papua, we are proud of the food sovereignty of the Prabowo era,” he said.

According to him, the government’s food programs have been directly felt by the community, down to the district level.

“We truly enjoy the food that has been distributed by the government from the province, district, and down to the sub-district levels. We have received it wholeheartedly,” he added.

This reflects the government’s success in ensuring the equitable distribution of food products and agricultural assistance to remote areas.

Martinus also explained that the various seed aid programs sent by the government have had a real impact on the productivity of local farmers.

“We have planted the seeds imported by the government in our respective fields. That’s been extraordinary for us,” he said.

Martinus said that this effort has not only increased harvest yields but also fostered a renewed spirit of independence and innovation among Papuan farmers.

This step aligns with the Prabowo-Gibran administration’s vision to build a resilient national food system based on local potential and oriented towards the people’s welfare.

In addition to food sovereignty, infrastructure development in Papua has also shown significant progress. Martinus acknowledged that during the year of the Prabowo-Gibran administration, public access to roads and transportation has improved.

“With the government programs under Mr. Prabowo, we are enjoying the roads that used to be in disrepair for us to get from the city, district, and village to the village. Now, the roads are smooth. We truly enjoy this to this day,” he explained.

Increasingly connected infrastructure is a crucial factor in streamlining food distribution, expanding market access, and opening new economic opportunities for local communities.

The government is not only focusing on food and infrastructure; it is also paying attention to the public housing sector. Martinus stated that many Papuans are now benefiting from the government’s housing program.

“And besides infrastructure, there are community housing projects. Likewise, we truly benefit from the government’s ongoing infrastructure development programs, specifically in the housing sector,” he explained.

“Here in our village, we are also benefiting from government assistance in the form of building materials. Many houses have been physically repaired, and some are already under construction,” he concluded.

This development, which touches various aspects of Papuan life, is a clear demonstration of the Prabowo-Gibran administration’s commitment to providing social justice and equitable development throughout the archipelago. By strengthening the food sector, improving infrastructure, and improving welfare through housing programs, Papua now stands as a crucial pillar of national food sovereignty and Indonesia’s sustainable development.
