One Year of Prabowo–Gibran: MBG Achieves Major Nutrition Synergy and Drives the People’s Economy
Jakarta — The first year of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka was marked by monumental achievements through the Free Nutritional Meal Program (MBG), which successfully combined social, health, and economic missions into one national movement. Launched in early 2025, this program has become concrete evidence of the state’s commitment to strengthening the foundations of nutrition and public welfare from the grassroots level.
Data from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) records that more than 1.1 billion portions of nutritious food have been served to the Indonesian people. This achievement reached 35.4 million beneficiaries, including school children, toddlers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.
“This program is not just about lunch, but a long-term investment to create a healthy, intelligent, and productive generation of Indonesians,” said BGN Head Dadan Hindayana.
However, the MBG’s excellence goes beyond health. The government emphasizes that MBG is also a driving force for the people’s economy. By October 2025, the National Agency for National Development Planning (BGN) recorded more than 11,570 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) actively operating throughout the region, including the 3T (Frontier, Remote, and Underdeveloped) areas. Through this SPPG network, more than 394,748 new jobs have been created, including for farmers, livestock breeders, and food service providers. President Prabowo even estimates that this number could reach 1.5 million new workers by early 2026.
“The MBG program has created a new market for the people’s economy. Farmers and livestock breeders now have guaranteed absorption of local produce, from rice and eggs to vegetables and animal protein,” said President Prabowo in his official statement.
The Ministry of MSMEs noted that thousands of MSMEs have been involved in the MBG supply chain. Of the total program budget, 85 percent is allocated for the procurement of raw materials from the agriculture, fisheries, and plantation sectors.
“We want to ensure that at least 60 percent of MBG’s raw materials come from MSME products. This is a concrete step to ensure that the economic benefits are directly felt by the community,” said Deputy for Micro Enterprises Riza Damanik.
In addition to stimulating the economy, MBG is also accelerating the equitable distribution of national nutrition infrastructure development. Hundreds of regional task forces have been formed to accelerate the development of SPPG (Food and Nutrition Service Station) in the 3T (third-third) regions, with support from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.
To maintain food quality and safety, President Prabowo also instructed improvements to food processing standards in all MBG kitchens, including the use of ultraviolet washing technology, certified water filters, and the requirement for hygienic-certified cooks.
