Government Allocates IDR 1.1 Trillion to Pay Salaries for 100,000 National Internship Participants to Develop a Superior Young Generation

Jakarta — The government has allocated IDR 1.1 trillion to pay the salaries of more than 100,000 participants in the national internship program. This policy is a concrete step in supporting the improvement of human resource quality, especially among the younger generation who are preparing to face the challenges of the future world of work.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the budget will come from the 2025 State Budget (APBN).

“This batch of 100,000 is IDR 1.1 trillion,” said Airlangga.

This program is designed to accelerate the absorption of young workers and ensure that new graduates have skills that meet industry needs.

“The government will provide six months of salary equivalent to the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) for internship participants. Around 10 percent of fresh graduates will enter the workforce directly through a link-and-match scheme,” said Airlangga.

The program will involve local governments, universities, and industry, using a link-and-match approach tailored to the workforce needs of each region.

“With a six-month internship, they will have the skills needed by industry, allowing them to be directly employed,” said Airlangga.

Meanwhile, Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that the Ready to Work national internship program will reopen in 2026 with a quota of 100,000 positions. He stated that the government is even considering making this program an annual program.

“There were whispers that, God willing, there will be another 100,000 positions next year, and this will become a regular government program,” said Yassierli.

The National Internship Program is part of the 8+4+5 economic stimulus package initiated by President Prabowo Subianto. Internship participants will receive an allowance equivalent to the district/city minimum wage, which will be paid by the central government from the state budget.

Yassierli added that the government also plans to reopen registration for the national internship program for a second batch in November with a quota of 80,000 participants.

“With this, we hope to create 100,000 internships this year,” said Yassierli.

Through this program, the government hopes to produce a creative, adaptable, and innovative young workforce. With substantial budget support and cross-sector synergy, this initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening the foundations of an economy based on superior and highly competitive human resources.
