Nation Appreciates Award of National Hero Title to 2nd President Soeharto
Jakarta – The awarding of the title of National Hero to the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soeharto, on Heroes’ Day on November 10, 2025, received widespread appreciation and support from religious figures, leaders of national organizations, and the government. This decision is seen as a form of state respect for a leader who has made significant contributions to Indonesia’s progress.
The Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, expressed his appreciation for the government’s decision to award the title of National Hero to Soeharto. “We express our gratitude and respect for President Soeharto’s dedication to maintaining unity and laying the foundations for national development. He played a significant role in Indonesian history. This award is a form of state respect for the nation’s greatest sons,” he said.
Support also came from the Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) for Religious Affairs, Gus Fahrur (Ahmad Fahrur Rozi). He considered Soeharto a leader who demonstrated decisiveness, national commitment, and real contributions to national life. “He played a role in maintaining national stability, building food sovereignty, and strengthening the economy. This is the right decision. We express our appreciation and gratitude to the government for this award,” he emphasized.
The Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board, Dadang Kahmad, also expressed similar support. He mentioned many development achievements that are still felt by the people today. “Soeharto has made significant contributions to Indonesia. Many development programs have lasting benefits and become the foundation of the nation. We support and appreciate the awarding of the title of National Hero,” he said.
Meanwhile, Asrorun Niam Sholeh, Head of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Fatwa Division, viewed this decision as a form of respect for the leader’s long-standing dedication to the nation. “The awarding of this title is a form of state recognition for figures with a track record of service. We appreciate this decision as part of our respect for the nation’s history and struggle,” he said.
From the national political scene, the Chairperson of the NasDem Central Executive Board, Irma Suryani Chaniago, viewed the title as a symbol that the nation does not forget the services of its leaders.
