Government Strengthens Cross-Sector Synergy to Expand the People’s School Program

Jakarta – The government is further strengthening collaborative efforts to expand the reach and improve the quality of services of the People’s School Program. This effort is being carried out through cross-ministerial synergy, with the aim of ensuring equitable and quality access to education for all Indonesian children.

The latest step is evident in the collaboration between PT Pos Indonesia and the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the University of Logistics and International Business (ULBI) in Bandung, West Java. The collaboration includes support for facilities and infrastructure, as well as the provision of scholarships for People’s School graduates who wish to continue their higher education at ULBI.

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf stated that this collaboration is a concrete effort to strengthen the foundation of inclusive and sustainable education. “We signed an MoU under which PT Pos will provide support to People’s School through several programs. This includes providing scholarships to talented People’s School graduates to study at the University of Logistics and International Business,” he said.

Acting The President Director of PT Pos Indonesia, Haris, emphasized that this support is part of a joint commitment between the Ministry of Social Affairs, PT Pos Indonesia, and stakeholders to improve public welfare through educational services. He stated that this collaboration is not merely ceremonial, but encompasses a number of strategic programs.

“The collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs covers various areas, from capacity building and community social literacy, education and training, and economic empowerment, provision of facilities and operational support, to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs for People’s Schools,” Haris explained. He hopes these efforts will strengthen modern, adaptive, and impactful social services.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works (PU) is also accelerating the development of educational infrastructure through the Phase II People’s School Program, which is now entering the construction phase in various regions. After completing the renovation of 165 Pioneer People’s Schools Phase I, construction of the next phase is now underway at 104 locations throughout Indonesia.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasized that this accelerated development is part of the government’s efforts to develop superior Indonesian human resources. “The construction of these People’s Schools is a concrete manifestation of the government’s commitment to developing superior human resources. The Ministry of Public Works wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with high quality,” he said.

Several phase II construction sites have begun, including in Central Kalimantan Province—including Gunung Mas Regency, Katingan Regency, East Kotawaringin Regency, and Palangka Raya City. In South Kalimantan, construction progress is also underway in Banjarbaru Regency, Barito Kuala Regency, and Tanah Bumbu Regency.

The Phase II People’s School program is designed to accommodate up to 112,320 students through the provision of 3,744 study groups (rombel), consisting of 1,872 elementary school groups, 936 junior high school groups, and 936 senior high school groups. All construction is being built permanently on 5–10 hectares of land prepared by the local government. This development is targeted for completion and ready to support education in the 2026/2027 academic year.
