Papuan Religious Figure : Maintain Peace Ahead of Christmas and New Year

Papua – Ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, religious leaders in Papua are urging the entire community to continue maintaining peace and reject any form of provocation that could disrupt security and order. This appeal was delivered by the Papuan Religious Leader/General Secretary of the Indonesian Kingmi Church Synod, Reverend Dr. Yones Wenda, as a manifestation of the church’s concern for creating a safe, peaceful, and joyful atmosphere in Papua.

Reverend Dr. Yones Wenda emphasized the crucial role of security forces in maintaining regional stability, especially ahead of religious moments and the New Year. He expressed his full support for the steps taken by the authorities to ensure the public can celebrate Christmas and New Year safely.

“As a religious leader in Papua, I always support the security forces in maintaining a conducive situation, especially ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations,” he said.

He also highlighted the central government’s attention to Papua, which the community believes is increasingly benefiting. He believes that various development programs implemented by the government have had a positive impact on the lives of residents.

“The Asta Cita program launched by President Prabowo has greatly impacted the Papuan people. We truly feel its benefits, making people’s lives more peaceful and serene,” said Reverend Dr. Yones Wenda.

Therefore, all elements of Papuan society, from traditional leaders and youth leaders to communities in remote areas, must work together to maintain peace. He emphasized the importance of unity and togetherness to ensure Papua remains safe and harmonious.

“I invite all Papuans from all walks of life, even in remote areas, to work together to maintain peace in the run-up to Christmas and New Year,” he said.

Reverend Dr. Yones Wenda reminded the public not to be easily influenced by rumors or provocations that could cause unrest. He hoped that all residents would celebrate Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 with joy and gratitude.

“Let us avoid all forms of provocation so that we can all celebrate Christmas and New Year with joy, blessings, and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ,” he concluded.
