President Prabowo Strengthens Central-Regional Coordination to Accelerate Recovery in Sumatra

Aceh — The central and regional governments are strengthening cross-sectoral coordination to accelerate regional recovery following the floods and landslides that struck several areas in Sumatra in December 2025.

This strengthened coordination is aimed at ensuring that the restoration of basic infrastructure, meeting the needs of affected communities, and social and economic recovery are carried out simultaneously and measurably, especially in Aceh Tamiang Regency.

President Prabowo Subianto visited the disaster site in person and emphasized that the central government is moving quickly to support accelerated recovery in Aceh.

The President ensured that efforts to meet the basic needs of affected communities will continue through the integrated work of all relevant ministries and institutions.

“God willing, together we will improve this situation. The government will intervene and provide assistance to everyone,” the President said while inspecting the Evacuation Post at the Aceh Tamiang Bridge, Aceh, Friday (December 12, 2025).

The President also apologized for any services that have not been fully completed due to the challenging conditions on the ground.

“We’re working hard, maybe we haven’t yet got the electricity. Have we started? We’re trying, we know it’s very difficult on the ground. The situation is difficult, so we’re working together,” he said.

The President hopes the public will remain steadfast so that community activities, including children’s learning, can quickly return to normal.

“Hopefully, you will recover quickly, return quickly, and return to normal soon,” he said.

In the infrastructure sector, the Ministry of Public Works is accelerating the restoration of roads and bridges damaged by the disaster.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo emphasized that all the ministry’s resources are being deployed to restore national connectivity in Aceh.

“On the President’s direction, all resources of the Ministry of Public Works are working optimally to ensure that land access can be restored quickly. We continue to work because this concerns public mobility, aid distribution, and recovery activities on the ground,” he explained.

The Ministry of Public Works is targeting the full restoration of all national roads in Aceh by December 30, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is maximizing operational support through air logistics distribution, opening road access, and building emergency bridges.

Colonel Fransisco, Territorial Assistant for the Iskandar Muda Military Command, emphasized that the TNI’s involvement is focused on areas with completely cut off access.

“For cargo planes, we are dropping logistics to Rembele, Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, and Gayo Lues. Several other locations are also prioritized because land access is completely impassable,” he said.

Colonel Fransisco emphasized that the humanitarian operation will continue until all the community’s urgent needs are met.

“This is a humanitarian operation. We are carrying out all instructions from our leadership to ensure that the community is not alone in facing this disaster,” he concluded. (*)
