Online Gambling Government Regulation to be Completed Soon, a Form of Indonesia’s Commitment to Eradicate Online Gambling

Jakarta – The government is currently finalizing the Government Regulation (PP) on the eradication of online gambling as a concrete step in suppressing the rampant practice of online gambling in Indonesia. This policy is one of the main priorities of President Prabowo Subianto’s government in order to create a safer digital space for the community, especially children.
The Director General of Public Communication and Media of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi), Fifi Aleyda Yahya, said that the regulation is still in the drafting stage and is expected to be completed in the near future. “Still in process, yes, just pray. But, what is certain is that we are waiting together because this is indeed President Prabowo’s mandate to create a safer digital space for our children,” said Fifi.
Furthermore, Fifi emphasized that President Prabowo together with the Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid have a strong commitment to completing this regulation in the near future.
Previously, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid had conveyed that President Prabowo Subianto was paying serious attention to the increasingly worrying rise in online gambling. Meutya revealed that President Prabowo directed that regulations related to the eradication of online gambling be immediately drafted in the form of a Government Regulation (PP). “The President again discussed the development of handling online gambling and one of the steps that will be taken in the near future is to issue a regulation, possibly in the form of a PP,” she said.
Meutya also emphasized that this PP will later regulate stricter steps in combating online gambling. She revealed that to date, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has blocked almost one million online gambling sites as part of law enforcement and community protection efforts. “Blocking efforts have been carried out on almost one million sites, but we also need stricter regulations to eradicate this online gambling,” she said.
The government hopes that with the immediate issuance of this PP, the steps to eradicate online gambling can be more effective and provide a deterrent effect for perpetrators and parties involved in online gambling networks. In addition, this regulation is also expected to be a strong legal umbrella for law enforcement officers in prosecuting perpetrators more systematically. With this step, the government is committed to creating a healthier and more conducive digital space for all Indonesian people.
