19th PUIC Conference Promotes India-Pakistan Peace, Indonesia Ready to be a Mediator

Jakarta — The 19th Conference of the Union of Parliaments of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) which is currently taking place at the Indonesian House of Representatives Building, Jakarta, not only discusses strategic issues in the Islamic world, but also emphasizes the importance of the role of parliament in promoting global peace, including efforts to resolve the conflict between India and Pakistan.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, in a bilateral meeting with a number of parliamentary leaders from friendly countries, conveyed Indonesia’s commitment to world peace. The meeting was held separately with the parliamentary leaders of Algeria, Bahrain, Oman, and the Czech Republic who attended as observers.
“We just held a bilateral meeting with the parliamentary leaders of Algeria, Bahrain, Oman, and the Czech Republic. In that meeting, we discussed various international issues, including the importance of joint efforts to realize peace between nations,” said Puan.
In the dialogue, Puan also touched on the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation to address various global dynamics. She emphasized that parliament has a strategic role as a bridge of diplomacy and a guardian of regional stability.
“There is no better solution than peace achieved through diplomacy and mutual understanding,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, added that Indonesia is ready to mediate a number of international conflicts. One of the issues of concern is the conflict between India and Pakistan.
“God willing, we will be a peace mediator. We do not deny the existing conflict, but we try to see it from all perspectives and find common ground. Our focus is a peace-based solution,” said Mardani.
He emphasized that in mediation efforts, Indonesia will maintain neutrality and not take sides, including in the India-Pakistan conflict and other conflicts such as Russia-Ukraine.
The 19th PUIC Conference, which took place from 12 to 15 May 2025, was attended by more than 450 delegates from 38 PUIC member countries and 10 observer countries. Carrying the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”, this conference is an important momentum for the parliaments of the Islamic world to strengthen solidarity, as well as take an active role in maintaining world peace and order.
